I might ask the same questions of yourself, Myla.
I hold a BA in Earth Science from Wesleyan University, and an MS and PhD in Civil Engineering from the Univ. of Texas at Austin, having concentrated in contaminant transport in porous media. I have published in the "gray literature", but not yet in peer-reviewed journals. I have not taught formal classes in the subject, but could certaintly do so (academia ain't all it's cracked up to be). I have not worked for Westinghouse or DOE, but have worked for Sandia Nat'l Labs, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. I have specifically reviewed the hydrogeological issues at the WIPP, having participated in several geostatistical working panel sessions directed those issues. I have studied the geology of the Los Medanos area surrounding WIPP, and have spent time in the field there.
