For those who may be unfamiliar with the NM Environmental Evaluation Group, it was essentially set up as a technical watch dog group to advise the State of NM on WIPP. The EEG funding comes from DOE, but the EEG's independent status is protected through an agreement between DOE and the State. In deed, on several occasions the EEG has brought (or theatened to bring)legal actions against DOE and has financially support organizations such as the Southwest Research and Information Center (a well known opponent of WIPP).
