The company that wants to build a nuclear fuel factory near Eunice officials submitted its license application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Submission of the 2 -1/2 foot high stack of documents is a major step for LES, the company that wants to build a plant in southeastern New Mexico to process uranium for use in nuclear power plant fuel.

The application starts a several-year environmental and safety review of the proposed project by federal regulators.

The meeting for public comment on the application should come in February in Eunice, said Tim Johnson, who is in charge of reviewing the application for the NRC.
